Fancy houses, rich people and a Steinway piano in Wellesley.

Performed background music today at a fundraiser event for my school, North Bennet Street School, which was held in a beautiful castle-ish house in Wellesley, Massachusetts (see the first link for a picture of the front entrance). There were lots of finely-dressed, important-looking people thereĀ  and really awesome bits-of-food-on-platters. It was a slightly intimidating but nonetheless fun experience, and was to boot my first paid, public (piano) performance gig. I didn’t play anything complicated, just my own compositions which I could solo over without too much effort, but I feel pretty good about it. Here’s the corner in which I sat and played (and yes, the rest of the house looks just as amazing as that, if not more):

The piano is a Steinway model L from (I think) 1923, excellent condition, rebuilt by second-year piano technology students at North Bennet Street School. Kind of heavy to play and shallow to the touch, but it made up for it with a great, rich sound.

  1. What a lovely way to spend an afternoon!

    Congratulations on your gig!

I am not familiar with North Bennet Street School. What is it?

I have a 1930 baby grand with a cracked sound board…is this something students could help out with?

Good luck on your future concerts!
